In the spring of 1979, with the help of friends and neighbors, we planted our first acre of blueberries on our 50-acre farm in the town of Hector in central New York. We added more plants each year for the following three seasons, ending up with about six thousand plants in total. By the late eighties, our season had begun to extend for several weeks, and customers began to arrive from as far away as Pennsylvania to pick our blueberries. As the new century dawned we began to consider adding new products to offer our growing customer base and decide to start making wines from estate-grown fruit.
In 2003 we converted an old carriage house on the farm to a tasting room and began selling wines during the you-pick blueberry season. Because we began our business selling blueberries, an important goal has been to produce the best blueberry wine in the Finger Lakes region.
Today, we are Glenhaven Farm Winery--a graceful farm in the New York Finger Lakes Region known for our "you pick" blueberries and wonderful, small batch wines. We have been one of the first to embrace local first, producing our delicious fruit for over thirty years. We celebrate that spirit of simpler times here at the farm, at the Ithaca Farmers Market and as proud Trumansburg community members.
Enjoy the peaceful pace of summer while berry picking, or while tasting wines made from a variety of fruits, from grapes to our signature berry wines— Blueberry, Black Currant, Raspberry and Blackberry. You can taste and purchase our wines at the farm during the fresh blueberry season, or you can visit us at the Ithaca Farmers Market on the weekends from April through early November.
Summer has never tasted better.
