Frequently Asked Questions 2024 Season
What are you charging this year for blueberries? $4.49 per pound, the same price as last year
What are your hours? Hours are posted on our website. We are normally open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but factors out of our control may require changes at any point during the season. We will always update the website, Facebook, and Instagram with the current information.
Do we have to bring our own containers or do you provide containers for picking? We ask that you pick in our containers as the most efficient way for us to check you in and out. We encourage you to bring your own containers or bags for transporting your berries home. We do have plastic bags at no extra charge but will likely charge a small fee beginning in 2024. We appreciate your cooperation in cutting down on non-biodegradable waste.
Do you sell picked berries? Picked berries are available by the pint and the bucket (about eight pounds) at the Ithaca Farmers Market on Saturday and Sunday while supply lasts.
Can I bring my dog with me when I pick blueberries? No, we ask that you come to the farm without your dog or other pets. Our farm business observes FDA rules designed to ensure food safety. These rules require that pets not be permitted in areas where our products are growing or being sold. Given the high temperatures we experience here in the summer, we cannot condone leaving animals in a parked car while you pick.
Are your blueberries organic? No. We do not make any claims in our advertising or otherwise that our berries are organic. We use commercial approved herbicides for weed control, fertilizers to keep the plants healthy and spray for pests only when our integrated pest management (IPM) program detects the presence of harmful insects.
Can you notify me when the blueberries are ready? If you would like to receive an email as soon as we set the date, send a message to info@glenhavenfarm.com from the email address you'd like to subscribe, stating briefly that you would like to be added to our email list. Please be aware that your email provider may mark our notification as spam so be sure to check whether you can do something in your email software to allow delivery from our address to your Inbox.
When will the blueberries be ready and how long will the season be? Due to the variety of factors related to berry ripening and how long they will last, we cannot provide precise dates very far in advance. Please refer to our online presences (website, Facebook, Instagram) or our voicemail greeting to find out when we will open and close.
When are you open during the year for wine tastings and sales on the farm? We are open only during the you-pick blueberry season which varies from year to year. Check our website, Facebook page or follow us on Instagram for opening and closing dates.
Can you accommodate large groups for wine tastings? Our tasting room is relatively small so it would be difficult for us to accept large groups of people at once. If your group includes more than five people please call ahead to arrange a time when we will be able to serve you best. Generally, mid-morning (10 to 11) and mid afternoon (2-3) are calmer than other times of the day.
Where can I buy your wines after the farm is closed for the season? We sell our wines on the weekends at the Ithaca Farmers Market from April through early November. We are not set up to ship wines to customers.
What forms of payment do you accept? We accept cash, all major credit cards, and checks that contain an address and phone number. We prefer cash or credit. There is a ten dollar minimum for credit card payments.
Do you host special events such as weddings? We are not set up with the facilities for hosting special events nor do we have plans to expand into that line of business.
Can we have picnics on your property? Due to the high volume of visitors we have during a short season, we do not offer the facilities necessary to open our farm to picnickers. There are a number of parks just a few miles from here with picnic tables, restrooms, trashcans and other amenities needed to support this family activity.
